    IMPHAL, May 31: Failure from the part of the state government to convert Jiribam subdivision into a full-fledged revenue district, a sit-in protest was staged in Jiribam on Tuesday under the aegis of Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC).
    Jiribam is a subdivision under Imphal East district but situated in the Manipur-Assam border which is some 220 kilometres from the state capital Imphal.

    According to JDDC, chief minister O Ibobi Singh and Jiribam MLA Th Debendra Singh had assured the Committee that by May 30 the demand of the Jiribam people would be made. JDDC leader M Maipaksana said, “Since the state government had failed in implementing what was assured, we have no other option but to press the government to meet our demand.”

    Jiribam District Demand Committee wa formed in the year 2006. Several bandhs have been imposed since then demanding the creation of Jiribam district.
