Students appeal against ITI ban; declares May 19 class resumption

IMPHAL, May 18: Trainees of the Industrial Training Institute, Imphal and other student bodies today have made a fervent appeal to a KCP (Yaiphaba) faction to lift the ban imposed upon the training institute since May 4 saying that the ban will negatively affect the academic careers of he trainees. The students further announced that classes will resume from May 19.

The appeal was made today in a joint press conference held today at the ITI premise which was attended by leaders of three leading students organisations of the state, trainees of the ITI Imphal as well as teaching and non-teaching staffs of the premier training institute of the state.

Speaking at the conference, DESAM education and academic affairs secretary Ph Premchandra appeal the KCP faction which imposes ban to normal functioning of ITI Imphal to lift the ban in the interest of the trainees who are nearing their final examination.

He said ITI Imphal usually conducts its examination during the month of July every year which cannot be deferred as it is an all India examination.

The DESAM secretary while asserting that the academic atmosphere of the students should not be disturbed at any point of time announced that regular classes at the ITI would be resumed from May 19 onwards. The decision to resume normal classes at the ITI is not taken against the KCP faction but to the interest of the trainees who are to sit in the all India examination scheduled during July later this year.

The student leader also appealed Th Manibabu, assistant director ITI Imphal to bring an amicable solution on the matter at the earliest so that there is no further disturbance to the academic atmosphere.

While asserting that education sector should be a free zone, the DESAM leader also appealed to both the government machinery and the UGs not to create disturbances to education sector.

S Manjit Meitei, Imphal West district secretary AMSU, who also attended the press conference said ITI Imphal is one of the pioneer training institutes of the state and creating disturbances at this institute would not bring any good to the state. He also appealed to the particular UG group to settle the matter with the concerned authority and not to direct their anger against the ITI trainees.

P Robindra, principal ITI Imphal, who also attended the press conference, also appealed to the UG groups to lift the ban imposed on the institute in the interest of the trainees who are getting invaluable training from the institute.

Speaking at the press conference, KSA general secretary Kh Manao appeal to all concerned not to disturb the normal classes of the institute which will resumed from May 19 as usual. Resumption of normal classes at the ITI Imphal is not against the ban imposed by the KCP faction but in the interest of the trainees, he maintained.

He also appealed to all the trainees of the ITI to attend classes in time from tomorrow onwards.
