IMPHAL May 14: Manipur State Shumang Leela Council in collaboration with Theatre Mirror, Imphal, is organizing a one month training on Shumang Leela, starting from May 17 to June 17, 2011. A press conference was held today by the organizing committee prior to this training programme at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace compound, Imphal.With an objective to up-lift the heritage of Shumang Leela and a mission to safeguard from withering to obscurity, the one month training programme has been organized since the last four years said Naba Warepa, project director of the programme while briefing media persons. For convenience of student communities, the training programme is organized at this time of the year keeping in view of the summer vacation of various schools, he added. The training programme aims to impart valuable inputs on various aspects in this field to both male and female as well as to traditional male dressed in female attire.He also stated that during the training programme, varieties of project will be taken up. Naba Warepa added that an independent school on Shumang Leela is in the offing, which will be under the administration of Manipur State Shumang Leela Council. The proposed school is expected to have Foundation courses, Diploma courses and Degree courses in this performing art form.Sougrakpam Hemanta Singh, technical director and Gunachandra Sharma, camp director were also present during the press conference.
