Training programme on cultivation

    IMPHAL May 31: A two days intensive training programme on Patchouli cultivation in Manipur was inaugurated today in a formal function held at the Youth hostel situated in Khuman Lampak, Imphal. The two days intensive training programme was organized by Manipur State medicinal plants board, medical directorate, Lamphel under the sponsorship of NEDFi, Guwahati.

    K. Moses Chalai, IAS, commissioner, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Manipur, S. Ibomcha Singh, director of Health Services, Manipur and Dr. D.N. Dutta, director, NEDFi R & D Centre, Guwahati graced the inaugural function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively. The function was attended by invitees and participants of the two days training programme.

    Patchouli is an aromatic herb, which is distributed in the Indo- Malaysian and Sino- Japanese regions. The oil extracted from this herb is widely used as based ingredient in varieties of cosmetic products, perfumery, processed food etc and is imported in India in huge quantities every year.
