Two women left dead in seperate road mishaps

IMPHAL, May 19: At least two women were killed in separate road mishaps today.
The first road accident was occurred near Lokcaho Soibum Nampham along the Imphal Moreh road under Tengnoupal police station this afternoon as one 50 years old woman identified as Mayengbam Ongbi Chaobiyaima Devi w/o late M Mohon of Wabagai Lamkhai Bazar was hit by a speeding Maruti Van and later succumbed at the same spot this noon.

According to police source, the van fell into a roadside gorge after hitting the woman, even as the woman was offering her prayers to a local diety alongside the road however the driver of the van managed to abscond from the spot.

In another incident, a woman died after she was hit by a Tata Sumo while she was riding a Honda Activa in front of the Moirang Oil pump this afternoon at around 2 pm under Moirang police station.

The victim has been identified as Chingthianpol, 30, w/o Ginzasian of Tangnaum village of Churandpur district.

According to police source the police were chasing the Tata Sumo which was white in colour for knocking down a pedestrian near Moirang Mukta High School and it was during the chase that the Tata Sumo hit the women Activa driver which killed her on the spot. However the Tata Sumo managed to flee from the scene and later surrender to the Moirang PS late in the evening.

The dead body of the victim woman was picked up from the spot by the Moirang police this afternoon and deposited at RIMS morgue for the post mortem after taking up an FIR case.
