IMPHAL, May 15: Residents of Wangkhem village under Keirao Assembly Constituency today dignified former leader of the proscribed PULF MI Khan in his new role of a social worker after severing all ties with his former militant outfit. The people of the village today expressed their gratitude to Md Islamuddin Khan popularly known as MI Khan for his benevolent acts including the installation of a new power transformer from his own expenditure in the village. The residents of the village were happy that the former militant leader has brought back light into the village by installing the transformer as the village had been left in the dark with no power connection since November last year.During a simple inaugural function of the newly installed transformer, MI Khan who has already announced his interest in joining politics recently, appealed to the people of the area to be fully thoughtful while choosing their right representative and to look for someone who can work for the welfare of the people and the constituency. He further stated that every voter has a right to choose their own representative and no one can force them while exercising their franchise and as that the people should properly consider the concept of the universal adult franchise under the Indian constitution. The former militant leader also took a dig at the numerous social workers turned politicians for promising everything to the voters before the election and who turn their backs once they are elected. He further warned the people against such politicians who can only come to the people during their election campaigning.Further speaking at the function, he stated that even though the elected representative of the constituency is a cabinet minister in the current SPF government, he has totally failed to look into the various infrastructures and development programmes which are lacking in the constituency. In the meantime various local leaders of the Wangkhem village expressed their strong concerned over the failure of the elected representative of the area for failing to consider the genuine demands of the villagers including the repairing of the power transformer which had been lying defunct for nearly a year and other development works like road connectivity. The villagers further praised MI Khan for his selfless endeavor.
