28 AR distributes lamps

IMPHAL, June 11: A distribution function of solar lamps and food items was organised by 28 AR under the aegis of HQs 9 sector AR at Darul Yatama Lil Banat Wa Jamiatus Alihat (Orphanage for Girls) yesterday. 

Brig Gajendra Prasad, commander HQs 9 sector AR graced the function as the chief guest and contributed 15 Solar Lamps and food items to the needy children on June10 at Lilong Chaobok (Mairenkhul).

The DARUL YATAMA LIL BANAT WA JAMIATUS SALIHAT (Orphanage for Girls) since its establishment in 1998 has grown through its own endeavour and the commandable help of the compassionate people of the area. Till date, it is taking care of 220 Orphan Girls ranging from 6 – 14 years of age hailing from different parts of the North East.

Electric supply is erractic in Lilong area which poses major problems to these young children in their studies. HQs 9 sector through the 28 Assam Rifles Lilong Post keenly felt this genuine problem faced by the Orphanage in its day to day functioning and therefore has provided a source of lighting to the inmates.

Commander HQs 9 Sector AR in his speech highlighted the importance of education and literacy in the life of an orphan, especially a girl child. He lauded the exemplary effort of the governing body of the DARUL YATAMA LIL BANAT WA JAMIATUS SALIHAT (Orphanage for Girls) and its various donors for their selfless sacrifice and valiant task of running an institution nurturing 220 orphan girl child from the length and breadth of the North East. Providing Solar Lamps and Food Items to the Orphanage is a very small gesture. However, he firmly believes that it will go a long way in drawing the attention of the empathetic people towards this orphanage and inspire them to reach out their hearts to these young pillars of tomorrow.

Brig Gajendra Prasad, YSM, VSM, Commander HQs 9 sector AR, at the close of his speech extended his heartfelt thanks to the governing body of the Orphanage for their noble act. Col Sanjeev Kumar, Commandant 28 Assam Rifles was one of the dignitaries present on the momentous occasion.
