IMPHAL, June 10: Visiting Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary, Tapir Gao has charged the UPA government at the Centre and the SPF government of Manipur of promoting corruption and acting against the interest of the people.

Addressing mediapersons at the BJP state office at Nityaipat Chuthek today, Tapir Gao said present scenario of the nation can be compared to a state of undeclared emergency.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi are silent on the issues raised against curbing corruption and black money in the country, Tapir Gao alleged.

Describing the ruthlessness adopted by the Delhi police in dispersing the satyagrahis showing solidarity to Baba Ramdev at Ramlila Maidan, the brutality reveals a mindset of vendetta guiding the entire process, he said.

It is a clear statement that the Congress led UPA government wanted to send a message that anyone opposing the party and the government will be dealt with brutal force and suppress spiritual leaders and citizens demanding probity and transparency in public life and strong laws to tackle the menace of corruption and black money.

On the contrary, the Prime Minister and Congress president Sonia Gandhi justifies and defends by denying any wrong doings despite the strings of protests raised against the scams of Commonwealth games, 2G Spectrum, ‘S’ band, Adarsh Society, price rise etc, Tapir Gao alleged.

The BJP general secretary also address the local scenario and stated that the SPF government under the leadership of Chief Minister O Ibobi has never raised the issue of Irom Sharmila, who has been fasting for a decade. “ It is a great shame for the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi and Okram Ibobi that even though a citizen has been undergoing a hunger strike for 10 years, the situation has never been addressed seriously, it is a shame”, he said adding that the issue will be taken up at Parliament by BJP in the coming Parliament session.

Further, he said that the BJP demands that Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister Manmohan must apologize to the nation for violating the fundamental and constitutional rights of the citizens to peacefully protest against the policies and actions of the government.

“ They must also own responsibility and express regret for use of brutal police force to suppress the agitation by Baba Ramdev and his followers”, he concluded.
