Unlike the previous years, declaration of this year’s HSLC results was announced by the state education minister DD Thaisii in front of media persons, officials of the BSEM and others.
Out of the 34943 candidates who appeared in the examination, a total of 24725 candidates passed the examination registering a record 71 percent pass percentage, which is 10 percent more than the previous examination held in the year 2010. In the last examination, total pass percentage of the candidates was recorded at 61.
A total of 35575 candidates enrolled for the examination this year though only 34943 appeared for it.
The trend of private school candidates securing top 25 positions continues as no candidates from the government run school figured in the top 25 positions baring one student of Keishamthong high school, Prakash Khundrakpam who shared the 8th position along with three other private school candidates.
St. Joseph School, Sangaiprou got the top honour as five of its candidates were amongst 10 positions as they secured 1st, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th positions. Four more students of the school were also amongst the top 25 positions, either securing positions alone or sharing with other candidates.
The first position was bagged by Ningthoujam Rishikant Singh, son of Manimohan and N (O) Memton of Kwakeithel Soibam Leikai, Imphal. Rishikant is Section-A student of St. Joseph School, Sangaiprou.
He secured a total 483 out of the total 500 marks. He secured letter marks in Elective English, English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.
The second position holder Keisham Tampha Ibema is a Tiny Tots’ Unique School, Imphal student and is the daughter of Keisham Ibobi and K (O) Ibella of Awang Leikinthabi, Imphal.
She secured a total of 480 marks with letter marks in Elective English, English, Science and Social Science.
The third position holder, Soubam Daniel Singh is also a student of St. Joseph School, Sangaiprou. He is son of S Dhanabir Singh and S(O) Pushparani Devi of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai, Imphal. He secured a total of 477 marks with letter marks in Elective English, English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science.
Only three female candidates made it to the top 10 position as against 11 by their male counterparts.

While 6759 candidates made it with I division, 15,900 passed the examination in the second division while 2066 candidates passed in the III division in this year’s examination.
As did in the previous year, male candidates outshine their female counterparts as 13869 out of 18819 male candidates who appeared in the examination cleared in the three grading, which is a record 75 pass percentage.
As regard of the female candidates, 10856 passed the examination out of total 16485 who appeared the examination. Total pass percentage for female candidates was recorded at 66 in the examination.
Boys again outshine girls in number of candidates passed in the I division as 3867 male candidates cleared the examination in the said grade while 2892 girls made it to the grade.
