CBI seeks re-arrest of two NSCN cadres on Arunachal MP assassination

IMPHAL, June 20(Newmai News Network): The two NSCN-IM cadres arrested by Assam Rifles on June 11 in Manipur have been further remanded to four-day police custody after producing before the chief judicial magistrate of Ukhrul district today. 

The CBI investigating into the assassination of a former MP of Arunachal Pradesh has also sought the arrest of the two, sources said.

As the ten days remand secured by the police neared expiry, the two NSCN-IM cades was produced for the second time before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) of Ukhrul today and a further four-day police remand secured, said a police source.

The two NSCN-IM cadres have been identified as Reishang Luikham, 40, of Kong village and Ramthing Kashing, 33, of Mambasi village. They were arrested by 17 AR on June 11 along with five assault rifles from Ukhrul district of Manipur and handed over the police in Imphal amid protest from some section of the population in the district.

According to an Imphal based newspaper report, the CBI has been seeking for the re-arrest of the two NSCN-IM cadres within the next four days and has also sought that the two be produced in Imphal. The case is presently under Somdal police station in Ukhrul district.

They have been on the wanted list of the CBI who has been investigating into the assassination of a former MP from Arunachal Pradesh in December 23, 2007.

It was speculated that even as the two NSCN-IM cadres are produced today before a court in Imphal, CBI, SBC, Kolkata will seek their arrest as the investigation body has reportedly obtained permission from the registrar of Gauhati High Court to do so.

However, in order to do that the CBI needs to obtain a transit permit from the state government of Manipur.
