DoNER ministry chips in Rs. 12.96 crores to improve education infrastructure in state

IMPHAL, June 22: The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region has approved projects worth Rs.12.96 crores in the education sector of Manipur. 

According to an emailed statement of the DoNER ministry, the costs of the projects would be met from the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) fund administered by the Ministry.

In the 96th Meeting of the NLCPR Committee held in New Delhi recently, Rs.12.96 crores was recommended for sanction of construction of 30 Nos. of Model Primary School buildings for the 6 Autonomous District Councils of Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Sadar Hills, Tamenglong, Senapati and Chandel, it added.

This is a part of the Phase I of the construction of 300 Nos of Modern Primary Schools under the Autonomous District Councils of Manipur to be undertaken by ministry of DoNER in the light of the directions of the Supreme Court to improve education infrastructure in the Autonomous Councils of the State, it stated.

The components for construction of Infrastructure in each School would include buildings, rain water harvesting, fencing etc.

According to the statement the matter had also come up for discussion during the meeting chaired by the Prime Minister at New Delhi on June 4, 2011 with the Chief Minister of Manipur and other senior Union ministers.

Earlier this month in the 94th Meeting of the NLCPR committee, Rs.9.72 crores was recommended for sanction of Infrastructure Development of 9 government colleges in the valley/hill districts of Manipur and Rs. 12.3 crores for construction of 7 Tribal markets in the state.

Minister of DoNER B.K Handique said that steps were being taken to hasten the process of sanction to facilitate the early execution of projects under NLCPR, added the statement.
