IMPHAL June 4: Following up the reported incident of the assault of police personnel posted at JNIMS by the security escort of MLA Bijoy Koijam of Thongju Assembly Constituency on the night of May 31, a report has been lodged with the Porompat Police station in regard to the incident.According to the complainant, one assistant sub inspector M Sabir Ahmed reported that on the night of May 31, his police team was intimated from the police station that a problem has occurred inside JNIMS hospital at the casualty area and further instructed him to proceed for inquiry.Following the directive, his team rushed to the site and found that the escorts of Bijoy Koijam under the command of havildar Hijam Rajen Singh was assaulting the police and VDF personnel near the casualty department of JNIMS. He stated in his report that VDF personnel identified as N Dima Singh and Md Safique Rehman along with police constable Yambem Vikram Singh was attacked by the MLA’s escort and received serious bodily injuries.As his team tried to pacify the attackers, the MLA’s escort became abusive under the influence of alcohol and assaulted his police team by punching and clubbing them, in the incident constable M Ranjit and Mark Kom also sustained injuries.In accordance with the FIR number 196(5)2011, Porompat police have registered a case under section 326/353/506/34 of the IPC.
