Governor and chief secretary to represent state in the absence of Chief Minister in NEC meet

IMPHAL, June 15: The Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has in the last minute decided not to attend the two days 60th North Eastern Council (NEC) meeting which is scheduled to be held from June 16 at New Delhi, citing the fear of possible administration lapses in the state in the absence of both the Chief Minister and the chief secretary from the state for two consecutive days.

The scheduled meeting of the NEC is supposed to be attended by the Chief Ministers, Governors and chief secretaries of all the North Eastern states including Sikkim as per the directives of the NEC.

According to an official source, in view of tomorrow’s meeting, the state Governor Gurbacharan Jagat along with the special secretary Planning, Dr. Sajjad Hassan has left Imphal for the national capital this morning taking along the various compiled comprehensive new proposals for projects to be tabled at the meeting.

However, chief secretary, DS Poonia has already been stationed at New Delhi since the past two days, the source added.

It has further added that all preparations from the state’s side regarding the meeting has been completed with the state planning department compiling the various proposals for new projects in collaboration with the concerned line departments for projects in various sectors including the power, education, science and technology, railways, air connectivity, innovation for the North Eastern Region, Transport and communication, agriculture, sports etc,.

The same source also stated that the union ministry of power will present the action plans to be taken up under Vision 2020 in all North eastern states participating in the meet during the introduction on the first day of the meeting.

The introductory presentation will be followed by a discussion on the Education plan of the Mizoram government.

The source further stated that a discussion on the Mission on Geo Spatial Applications under the ministry of Science and Technology on GIS mapping of social infrastructure in Nagaland and Manipur using #D terrain models will soon follow during the first day of the meeting which will be attended by San Pitroda, Advisor to Prime Minister and chairman, National Innovation Council on the Innovation of North Eastern Region.

Further another discussion on the Action Plan prepared for North Eastern Region on the basis of NER Vision 2020 regarding railway connectivity will be held attended by officials of the ministry of railway.

Meanwhile, the source has also stated that a special award presentation to the winners of the recently constituted North Eastern Council Chairman’s Sport Award for Excellence will also be a part of the meeting.

In the meantime, the DoNER minister BK Handique who is also the authority for the planning and execution of all development of the North East region under DoNER fundings will chair the last day of meeting.
