Hill based millitant cadres lay down arms at Leimakhong

IMPHAL, June 27: In what many referred to as a paradigm shift in the aspiration of erstwhile insurgents who now desire to join the national mainstream, a formal surrender ceremony was held this afternoon at the Red Shield auditorium at Leimakhong Army headquarter, wherein 33 cadres of different insurgent groups operating in the state laid down their arms to the state DGP Manipur Y Joykumar and Major General DS Hooda, 57 Mountain Division.

Y Joykumar attending as chief guest of the formal function of the home coming ceremony while welcoming back the 33 cadres of the different hill based militant outfits assured the surrendering cadres and their families of proper rehabilitation in the state.

He further mentioned that the continuing trend of militant cadres laying down arms to the state security forces is indicative of the gradual realization of the previously misguided youths and their need to return to the mainstream society.

The state DGP also stated that the recent mass surrender of the PULF group including its leader and has contributed in ushering peace in the state upto an extent.

He also added that if the other militant groups also follow suit and surrender to the forces could bring an end to the existing unrest and turmoil in the state.

Later Maj Gen. DS Hooda, GOC 57 Mt. Div. also complemented the courage and wisdom of those surrendered cadres of different militants organizations and their wisdom in choosing to become responsible citizens of the state and contribute to the realization of the people aspiration for peace.

He further assured the surrendered militants today to provide all assistance in their rehabilitation process.

He also added that the security forces on their part would continue to encourage all such endeavours of all insurgent groups, both collectively and individually and will continue to act as a facilitator in their rehabilitation and hence in their emergence as responsible citizens of the state.

During the formal surrender ceremony this afternoon, a total of 33 cadres belongings to different militant outfits operating mainly in the hill districts of the state surrendered along with 13 Ak-series Rifles, 13 AK Magazines and 59 AK live ammunitions, one local made Rif Bolt rilfle, 11nos. of 9mm pistols including .22 local made pistol, one G-3 Rifle, four .22 pistols, one .22 Rifles two hand grenades before the DGP Manipur and GOC 57 Mt. Div this evening.

The surrendered militant cadres include 22 cadres of PAKAN Revolutionary Army comprising of s/s commander in chief identified as Molum Anal, s/s brig. Molum alias Jetky, dy, chief Abem, maj Anil alias Nepolian PRO, capt. Bebe alias Joesful arm cadre, capt. T James Kuki, Lt Padola Kuki, 2nd lt. Ricky alias Gin, capt Letpao, capt Haopu Kuki, capt Lalboi Kuki, lance corporal John Kuki alias John, sep Hangam alias Ngamboi, sep Gogou Lamkhang, sep Helen alias Lian Francis, sep Ginou alias Thankin, sep Saiboi Anal, sep Thengkhular Anal, sep Houneo Zou alias James, sep Tongmin Gante alias Minim, sep Angpu Lamkang and sep Naosang alias Amos.

Further, eight cadres of NSCN (K) identified as Esam Newme alias Something, Galya Newme, s/s. pvt. Nummin Neme alias Obet, s/s. Lt. N. Mhason Newme alias Rocky, s/s sgt, Rocky Newme alias Jessy, s/s pvt Mukam Newme alias Akhuim, s/s pvt. Loyamchang and s/s pvt Haimoisap Newme were also among the surrendered cadres today.

Two other cadres of the NSCN (IM) and another of the FGN/NNC also laid down their arms to the security forces during the formal surrender ceremony this evening. The two has been identified as s/s lance corporal Paubamying and s/s lance corporal Hialakpe and cadres of FGN/NNC identified as SS. Lance corporal Thanghoi.
