Hueiyen Lanpao reporter conferred with RK Sanatomba memorial award 2011

IMPHAL June 30: Rk Sanatomba memorial award 2011 was today awarded to Ngangom Amukhomba, a reporter of a Manipur daily, Hueiyen Lanpao. A function was held in this connection at Gandhi Memorial hall, Imphal this afternoon. 

Elated Amukhomba opined that on seeing the system of the present society he was drawn in to this profession. He further maintained that he will continue to work in his level best as far as possible to bring a change in the present system of our society. The award is given to individuals in recognition of outstanding contribution for the society in the field of journalism. The award ceremony is held in commemoration of Rk. Sanatomba, who was once the editor of a journal, Kangla Lanpung.

Thounaojam Iboyaima, social activist, Prof. Soyam Lokendrajit, Prof. Wangkhem Nabakumar and A. Indrakumar, president, All Manipur Bar Association were on the dais as the dignitaries for today’s award ceremony.

While giving speeches the dignitaries expressed that the media should present the facts responsibly and should restrain from distortion of facts and biasness while reporting. Media persons should adopt balance reportage while presenting facts and should avoid giving weight to those who are in power, they said. They also reemphasized the duties of journalist in a democratic nation by reminding the importance of media that help series of major political upheavals that took place in the Middle East recently. They added that the plight of marginalized sections and exploitations that are prominent in our society should be put on the forefront.

The award ceremony is organized by Rk. Sanatomba Memorial trust.
