India-Myanmar sectoral meet to discuss border fencing, drug trafficking, joint military operation

IMPHAL, June 10: Sectoral level meeting of the officials of India and Myanmar is scheduled to be held on June 14 and 15 this month to discuss issues including border fencing at Moreh in Manipur’’s Chandel district, illegal cross border drug trafficking and conducting joint military operations against the militant outfits operating along the India and Myanmar border, official sources said today.

This will be 18th sectoral level meeting between the two country, and meeting this time would be held at Kalemyo, about 50 kms from Moreh border town.

The Indian side will be led by Ak Mishra, joint secretary Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) government of India. Other members will be Maj. Gen. Umesh Chandra, Surveyor General of India, Lt.Col. RK Saini, Director General Military Intelligence representing the central government. Special secretary Home, A Asutosh Kumar Singh,  Jt. Secy. Home Davesh Dewal and one officer in the rank of IGP of the state police department will participate the proposed meet representing the state government in Myanmar.

It may be mentioned that, the present construction of the fencing at Moreh border town has been stopped following objections raised by Myanmar officials that the construction site included a small area of Myanmar, and the Indian officials had already put their point that the construction was ten feet on Indian side from “no man’’s land”.

The official source also further mentioned that, deputed central official team for the said meeting will be arriving state capital on June 12 from Delhi will stay one night at the officer Mess of IGAR South, Mantripukhri the central team along with the deputed officials from the state will jointly move for Moreh Border town on June 13 morning and they will further proceeded for Kalemyo in Myanmar in the afternoon along with the officials of Myanmar from Tamu town, the official source added.
