According to a release of the Human to Humane Transcultural Centre for Torture & Trauma, survivors of torture and their family members, physiotherapists, human rights defenders and others participated in the well attended workshop.
The workshop highlighted the need to address the physical and psychological effects on survivors of torture and targeted violence in order to bring their problems to the public sphere so that a well adapted strategy to stop this practice can be developed. India’s international commitment, made 14 years ago at the United Nations, and reiterated by the Prime Minister three years ago to adopt a law by parliament that absolutely prohibits torture has yet to be fulfilled, added the release.
