IMPHAL, June 26: The Human to Humane Transcultural Centre for Torture & Trauma, in partnership with the Department of Clinical Psychology, RIMS and Human Rights Alert conducted a one-day Dance Movement Therapy workshop at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal today observing the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

According to a release of the Human to Humane Transcultural Centre for Torture & Trauma, survivors of torture and their family members, physiotherapists, human rights defenders and others participated in the well attended workshop.

The workshop highlighted the need to address the physical and psychological effects on survivors of torture and targeted violence in order to bring their problems to the public sphere so that a well adapted strategy to stop this practice can be developed. India’s international commitment, made 14 years ago at the United Nations, and reiterated by the Prime Minister three years ago to adopt a law by parliament that absolutely prohibits torture has yet to be fulfilled, added the release.
