Minister`s worker succumbs to stab injuries

IMPHAL, June 16: A worker of the works minister, K. Ranjit was stab to death by a group of individuals allegedly led by the member of Chairel Gram Panchayat ward number one identified as Nongmaithem Iboton at Chairel Lamkhai Pangaltabi Awang Leikai under Whaikhong Police Station, Thoubal district yesterday.

The deceased is identified as one Moirangthem Shyamo, 45, s/o (L) Nara of Wangjing Khunou Wangoo Lamkhai.

Family sources of the victim also disclosed that the incident occurred last night at about 8 pm.

According to their version the victim Shyamo was returning home after attending his personal work.

On reaching Chairel Lamkhai Pangaltabi Awang Leikai, the victim was swamped by Iboton and his groups and attacked him indiscriminately using sticks, stone and even knife, alleged the family.

He suffered several stab wounds all over his body and was rushed to RIMS by some locals of the Chairel but was again waylaid by Iboton and his group at Wangjing.

However timely intervention by the security forces that were sent by works minister, who was informed about the attack by the locals, enable the team to leave the area, however the victim succumbed before reaching the hospital.

Even though the real motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, the family has alleged that the attack could be related to election

The real motive behind the attacked still remained unclear but the family believed that the attack could be related with election issue.

The victim’s son Moirangthem Surjit, 28, was also attacked by Iboton and his men on June 14 leaving him badly injured, further alleged the family. Surjit was hospitalized for multiple head injury, they maintained.
