MLA blames lack of machineries, coordination between LDA and K-pro for delayed completion of Loktak cleaning

IMPHAL June 22: “Failure to acquire the necessary machineries in time has hampered the work execution carried out by the K- Pro limited at Loktak Lake”, Th. Ratankumar, MLA Mayang Imphal constituency, today reasoned on the apprehension of Loktak Lake cleaning projects to be extended by another few months from the stipulated target of March 2012.

The MLA was talking to media persons at the library hall of INA museum Moirang on the sideline of a seminar held in the auditorium of the museum in relation with the conservation and preservation of Loktak Lake.

On being asked about his opinion on the extension of the completion of Loktak Lake, the MLA who is himself a member of the Loktak Development Authourity, blamed that lack of coordination between the LDA and the K-Pro Limited as the major reason behind the extended schedule and as such the two need to work on and improve coordination between them, though earlier, the law and order situation in the state was the main issue apart from other factors that had shackled in carrying out works, Ratankumar added.

He further reasoned that the delayed in the process of the works has created apprehensions and frustrations among the local fishing community in and around Loktak lake who solely survive on fishing from the lake.

He further said that one of the burning issues of the Loktak area is the restriction laid by the government in the movement of villagers in Keibul Lamjao National park that has adversely affected the villagers dwelling inside the National park.

On the other side, the seminar was organized by Loktak Development Authority in collaboration with Red Shield Division/ Loktak Brigade.

Many eminent scholars and academicians presented papers relating to the present issues emanating from Loktak Lake. The seminar was held on the theme “conserving and managing Loktak Lake”.
