The victims have been identified as village secretary Disinang, 46, s/o (L) Gangbilung , village chairman Thonkungam, 45, s/o Namdinlung, Asing, 38, s/o (L) Thinding village authority member and M. Guangluangai, 64, s/o Namkhuanrei.
All the victims are currently undergoing treatment at the RIMS casualty unit.
According to injured Disinang, the incident occurred over the issue of rice distribution under the Haryalli scheme.
He alleged that a meet of the village authority was held at the customary court last evening around 9 pm where in it was agreed to distribute the rice.
He further alleged that minutes before the meeting was over some individuals sent by ADC member Daisinlung barged in and warned not to distribute the rice without the approval of the Congress party and also warned with dire consequences if they fail to comply with the threat.
Later without any warning the individuals thrashed them before leaving the place.
The victim alleging involvement of the concerned MLA of the constituency condemned the act for depriving the rights of the poor civilians and has call for the attention of the concerned authority to intervene into the matter.
