Police arrest extortionist cadres of militant groups

IMPHAL, June 25: A team of the Imphal West district police commandos has reportedly arrested two cadres of the UTLA militant yesterday morning around 7 am from Muktakhal Kuki Village, Jiribam.

A statement issued by the SP Imphal East district police has identified the individuals as Haominthang Sitlou alias Haotoi alias Verto, 28, s/o Semlen Sitlou of Babupara Jiribam and Letjalal Sitlou, 25, s/o Thangsei Sitlou of Mijoram Rengkai at present staying at Muktakhal.

On verification they disclosed that they are active members of UTLA organization and they were involved in extortion of money from general public, government officials, railway prospectus etc., it said.

According to a separate release of the AR, troops of 33 Assam Rifles of Logtak Brigade under Red Shield division had apprehended one over ground worker of PREPAK from Bishnupur district June 24.

It has further identified the apprehendee as Ningthoujam Sanatomba Singh, 56, s/o Ningthoujam Kala Singh, resident of Khordak Mayai Leikai of Bishnupur District. He revealed his involvement in recruitment, tax collection and extortion related activities for the outfit from the areas around Khordak, stated the release. The apprehendee was handed over to Kumbi Police Station, it added.
