Secretariat peon arrested as UG cadre sent to jail

IMPHAL, June 21: In a major proof to the existence of state employees acting as extortionist for proscribed UG groups in the state, a peon of the Manipur Secretariat identified as one M Openchandra Singh of Mayang Imphal Konchak was today remanded to judicial custody by the JMIC (Judicial Magistrate Imphal) recently on June 10 after the said peon was arrested by a combined team of Bishnupur district police commandos and a column of 18th Sikh Regiment on the intervening night of June 2-3 on charges of being a KCP (MTF) cadre.

According to an official source, under secretary GAD N Tomba issued the suspension of M Openchandra Singh on June 10 under Rule No. 10(2) of the Central Civil Services (Classification Central & Appeal Rule 1965), on account of his arrest by the security forces on charges of being a cadre of an underground group.

The source further mentioned that, he was arrested by the security forces on charges of nexus with the under ground group KCP (MTF) on June 2-3 night, and that during the course of interrogation by the police, Openchandra had admitted that he was involved in collecting various monetary demands from state departments including PWD, IFCD and Power as instructed by one Yumlembam Sanatomba alias Ingoba, 35, s/o Y Ibocha of Wangoi Thiyam Leikai of the KCP (MTF), the official source added.
