State DGP elaborates on need of education during training on human trafficking

By A Staff ReporterIMPHAL, June 6: As part of the countrywide proactive measures jointly adopted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and the state government, a one day state level training programme on Human Trafficking for the state police personnel (ASI to Dy. DSP) was organised today at the Banquet Hall of 1st Manipur Rifles.
The training programme was held with the main objective of educating Police Officers and the rank and file on the issue so that they become effective tools in combating human trafficking.
Manipur DGP Y Joykumar Singh, who inaugurated the training programme while elaborating on the need of education, observed that lack of education is one key factor for children being trafficked and being targeted by insurgent groups in the state as the state is infested with armed conflict.
He further elaborated that in the pretext of providing free education or jobs children are taken outside the state, however the children often end up in sleazy entertainment businesses outside the state or have their organs being sold away by crooks. 
While stressing the need for having close coordination between state police department and education department, the DGP sought the support of the education department to provide free and quality education to poor children who are easily susceptible to trafficking.
Additional DGP, LM Khoute, who was one of the resource person at the training programme, exalted the initiative to educate and inform the personnel of the police department on the issue of human trafficking.
The inaugural session was attended by 70 participants from the districts/units, senior police officers including Imphal based SSP/COs, director social welfare department, member secretary of Child Welfare Committee, Imphal East and convenor of the Manipur Alliance for Child Rights.
The training and syllabus of the training was based on the training module and materials provided by Bureau of Police Research & Development, Ministry of Home Affair and included all aspects of Human Trafficking, legal provisions and strategies to combat human trafficking.
