IMPHAL, June 11: Identifying the root cause of the frequent flood whenever heavy downpour occur in Imphal area specially in the areas of Sagolband, Keishamthong and Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency, PDA chairmen Kh Loken along with RK Anand, MLA Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency made an inspection of Waishel Maril.
The MLA-duo inspected various areas of Waishel Maril from Sagolband area to Sanjenbam village under Nambol assembly constituency along with a team of mediaperson.
During the inspection, various components of Waishel Maril were found blocked due to construction of micro earthen dams along the streams of Waishel Maril.
A long stretch of about 14 kilometers from Naoriya Pakhanglakpa to Sanjenbam in Nambol was found completely filled by floating water plants thereby hindering flow of water to the downstream.
Speaking to mediaperson during the inspection tour, RK Anand alleged that state government has failed to sanction adequate fund for cleaning Waishel Maril which has led to the present problem of flash flood.
While stating that clearance of Waishel Maril would never be complete without removing the land encroachers along the route of the Waishel Maril. he has appealed to the government look into the issue of land encraochers along the Waishel Maril stream.
He has also appealed to the general public extend cooperation to government in clearing the encroachers from the along the stream.
