Two powerful explosions rip through ex-UNC leader`s house

Imphal, June 6 (Newmai News Network):  Former United Naga Council (UNC) speaker Simthi  Ruivah has been attacked with bombs near Ukhrul headquaters on Sunday.
Police said two powerful explosions went off one after another in the residential compound of the social worker in Ukhrul district of Manipur.
The bomb explosion took place at Phungreitang Kamphasom which is about three km east of Ukhrul police station in the residence compound of a 55-year old social worker Simthi Ruivah s/o (L) RV Stephen at about 9:25 pm on Sunday, said the police source.
Simthi Ruivah is currently a member of Tangkhul Co-ordination Committee (TCC).
The source added that the two bombs had been hurled by some unidentified miscreants. The bombs went off at the courtyard of Mr Simthi`s after hitting the roof of his house.
No casualties have been reported from the blast even as parts of the house bore the mark of being hit by splinters from the bombs, said the police.
On getting the information about the blast, the local police rushed to the spot and conducted a spot inquiry. The police after having verified the crime scene suspected the bombs to be locally made. However, who and why the bombs were exploded remained unexplained, said the police.
