Villagers charge police commandos of harassment

IMPHAL, June 2: The Raengjaeng (Ngarian) village authority has alleged that the state police commandos have meted out harassment to innocent villagers on May 30 on the pretext of law and order situation.

The village authority in a statement claimed that a team of the Manipur police commandos came to the village at around 6:30 am of May 30 and stayed at the village till 3 pm during which they intimidated the innocent villagers on wrongful allegation besides, ransacking some houses and properties of the villagers.

While deploring the alleged highhandedness, it claimed that the police act has created fear psychosis among the villagers including women and children.

While appealing not to create similar harassment in the future amongst the peace loving and innocent people, the release has added that the state of Manipur has been plaque with killing and victimizing of many innocent people in the name of counter insurgency operation and law and order.

It warned that the people will be compelled to take the help of civil societies of the state and general public to protest against such high handedness in the event of continued raid at the village and harassment to the people. And, urged authority concerned and general public to intervene into the matter.
