3 abducted labourers remain untraceable

IMPHAL, July 25 (NNN): Four days after three laborers from Thoubal district were kidnapped by unidentified armed miscreants, they still remain untraceable, said the police Monday.

According to the police the three laborers, working on retaining walls along Chandrakhong Itok River, some eight kilometers northeast of Yairipok police station in Thoubal distritct, were kidnapped at gunpoint by armed miscreants on July 21.

The kidnapped laborers have been identified by the police on Monday as A Hemanta Singh, 33, s/o A Kondum of Charangpat Mamang, S Ningthemjao Singh, 60, s/o (L) S Birachandra Singh of Leirongthel and L Sarat Singh, 28, of Bokul Singh of Heirok Part II Khunou.  

The incident came to light only on July 23, after four days of the kidnapping and after a brother of one of the kidnapped lodged a police complaint, as the other laborers who were witness to the crime did not report the matter fearing reprisal from the armed kidnappers who threatened of dire consequences, said the police.

A 40-year old elder brother of the kidnapped Hemanta Singh, A Gulapi, lodged a police complaint about the kidnapping of his younger brother after which Yairipok police station registered an FIR no. 58 (7) 2011 u/s 447/365/368/34 IPC 25 (1-c) A Act and 20 u-A (P) A Act.

Four days on, no organization has claimed responsibility of the kidnapping as also not spelling out the reason for the kidnapping.
