`Agro industries will benefit state farmers`

IMPHAL, July 9: The coordinator of Congress Kisan Khet Mazdoor, Northeast region, L Sarat has stressed on the need to set up agro-based industries in the state in order to give utmost benefits to the farmers.

Addressing media persons today at Manipur Press Club, the coordinator Sarat stated that 80 percent of the total population of the state depends directly or indirectly on agriculture but the state is still lagging behind in the agricultural sector.

He maintained that the farmers of the state could get lots of benefits through the agro-based industries and it will pressurize the government to set up such industries at the appropriate regions.

Sarat also appealed to the farmers to understand various programmes and policies of the government and assured that the Mazdoor will take strict action if the farmers do not receive the benefits of the agricultural programmes.

The state coordinator of Kishan Khet Mazdoor, Len Gangte stated that Mazdoor will monitor various agricultural schemes of the state and it would ensure the welfare of the farmers.
