AMSU to ban intoxicants near educational places

IMPHAL, July 16: Giving a clarion call to the youths and students of the state to create a drug-free society, the Imphal West Committee of the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has decided to launch a stern drive against sale of intoxicants including tobacco products within 100 meters radius of educational institutions in Imphal West district.

A release of the committee asserted that students are the future pillars of the society and they should be guided on the right path. Unfortunatley, almost 60 percent of school and college going teenagers in the state are addicted to various intoxicants whereby leading to the degradation of their moral and health conditions.

It further stated that the members of the society should also be responsible to guide the youths and students. The public and civil organizations should also cooperate with AMSU to check the sale of intoxicants around the educational institutions. The well-being of the students is the welfare of the society, it added.

The AMSU also warned those people who sell intoxicants near educational institutions of dire consequences if they continue to sell those products.
