`Arrested militant led to another`s arrest`

IMPHAL, July 20: Security forces claimed to have arrested three militants and two over ground workers from separate counter insurgency operation conducted since yesterday in the state.

A statement issued by the PIB defense wing has stated that troops of 43 Assam Rifles under the Red Shield Division arrested two active PREPAK cadres in an operation launched in the wee hours today at around 2:30 am acting on credible information in Kanglatongbi.

The arrested individuals were identified as s/s lt Sanatom Singh alias Agnong Macha alias Sakhitombi, 46, s/o Elangbam of Imphal east and s/s sgt maj Soibam Shyam Singh, 54, s/o LS Bira Singh of Lansang Shanjenbam.

It has further said that Sanatom was enrolled in PREPAK four years back and has been active since then. His arrest has led to further arrest of Soibam Shyam Singh, who has been working for the outfit for the last two years.

A mobile phone along with SIM card was recovered from them and they have been handed over to Sekmai police station, it said.

It said that in yet another incident, a joint team of 16 Maratha Light Infantry, 4/8 GORKHA RIFLES and 5/9 Gorkha Rifles of Loktak Brigade under Red Shield Division apprehended two overground workers of PREPAK from Nachau Awang Leikai of Bishnupur district yesterday.

The individual have been identified as Manichand Singh, 57, s/o late Sanabi and Pukhambam Kuber Singh,43, s/o P P Yogeshwar both residents of Nachau Awang Leikai.

It has further stated that the individuals disclosed their involvement in extortion related activities and have been handed over to Bishnupur Police Station.

Meanwhile, a release of the Imphal east SP has stated that a team of SDO Imphal east has arrested a KCP (MC) identified as Laishram Santa alias Suraj s/o late L Modhu Singh of kakwa Leiphrakpam Leikai from Kakwa Laiphrakpam Leikai and recovered three .32 ammunitions from his possession.

It has further stated that Santa disclosed that he joined the KCP in the year through one Denachandra and had been earlier arrested by cdo twice.
