“Arrested UG cadre leads to other OGWs and arms and ammunitions”

IMPHAL, July 9: Security forces have claimed to have arrested two militant cadres of different outfits and three overground workers of the UNLF on July 8.

According to a statement, on getting credible information on the presence of militant cadres at the Kobwakching , troops of the 18 SIKH regiment on 08th July launched an operation at Kobwakching on the early morning of July 8 at about 1 am and apprehended one individual identified as Amom Ibomcha alias Jibon alias Achanba, 42.

Further according to the release, Ibomcha accepted that he was an s/s major (political wing) of UNLF and was the in charge of Imphal West area which was later on confirmed by reliable sources.

The team from 18 SIKH recovered two Tata Indicom mobile phones from the s/s major, the release added.

It has also added that on further checking the messages stored in his phone and on questioning him, it was found that there are three more of his accomplices currently residing in the village Kobawakching.

Immediately the same team rushed to the village and apprehended two OGW’s of UNLF.

According to the release the OGW’s were identified as Takhellambum Shashikanta Singh, 30, and Elam Iboncha Singh, 53.

After the apprehension of these two individuals, they were also questioned about their ties with the group and other people that may be aiding the outfit at present.

Further according to the release the two OWGs gave out information about the presence of a third OGW also staying in Kobawakching and the fact that this individual may be in possession of the weapon of the s/s major, Amom Ibomcha.

On revelation of such facts a joint team of Bishenpur police commando’s and 18 Sikh launched an operation into Kobakwakching village yet again and nabbed the OGW who has been identified as Elam Mangi, 50, added the release.

On a thorough search of Mangi’s house the joint team of 18 SIKH and Bishenpur police commandos recovered one 9mm pistol, one magazine, ten rounds of 9mm ammunition, ten rounds of M-16.

The team still was perseverant to find more and entered the pond in Mangi’s house from where they recovered a jerry can filled with AK-47 rounds which were about 480 in number, added the release.

After all these apprehensions and recoveries, all the UG’s were handed over to the Nambol police station, added the release.

Meanwhile troops of 27 AR of 9 Sector under the HQ IGAR (S) launched an operation in the general area of Malom Tulihal Awang Leikai and apprehended one PLA cadre on July 9 at around 00:30 am.

The arrested cadre has been identified as one Soibam Nipamacha alias Ibomcha, alias Prem Kumar, 37, s/o S Tomchou of Malom Tulihal Aang Leikai, stated a release of the pro.
