Awareness campaign mulls over drug abuse, its negative impacts

IMPHAL July 20: An awareness programme on drug abuse and its related consequential issues was held today at the Sagang Government high school in Sagang in Churachandpur. The programme which is part of an academic awareness endeavour meant for school and college going students has been organized under the All Manipur Anti Drug Association since October 2006.

The programme which was organized in collaboration with the department of social welfare, government of Manipur was presided over by the headmaster of the school Kh. Saratchandra while general secretary AMADA Ph. Phoney graced the function as the chief guest.

During the one day awareness programme various resource persons presented their topics on abuse of drugs and other substances and the subsequent negative impact imprinted upon the family in particular and the society in general.

R.k. Ibungosana, superintendent of narcotics control bureau (NCB), regional unit, Imphal while addressing the students delivered his speech on the topic “drug abuse prone to young students and its remedy”.

The speech was followed by Ja Chong Sinate district social welfare officer Churachandpur district on “role of social welfare department in prevention of drug abuse”.

S. Hemanta, advocate delivered on the topic “Illicit trafficking”  while  Dr. H. Angomcha, psychiatrist, district hospital , Bishnupur  by incorporating with slide presentation construed the students present on the fatal side effects resulted  from prolong abuse of prescription drugs and other substances.

Today’s awareness programme was attended by more than 500 students of Sagang high school besides teachers and staff of the school.
