IMPHAL, July 31: The local people of Mayang Imphal have protested against the arrest of one person by police on charges of theft today.

The arrested person is identified as Sagolshem Bode, 45, s/o (late) Ango of Mayang Imphal Konchak Mamang Leikai. He has been charged with stealing of one laptop from the residence of MLA Ratankumar.

Addressing media persons today, the secretary of Senior Citizens’ Forum, Mayang Imphal, Ch Naoro stated that Bode is innocent and the police should release him without any condition.

Mayang Imphal police station has been misused by some politicians. Bode has been framed for theft after he quitted as a worker of MLA Ratankumar to support the new candidate Manglem, he asserted.

The forum also doubted some conspiracy in the incident as it happened shortly after Bode left Ratankumar to support a new candidate, the secretary added.

Bode had stated before the police that the laptop was sold to him for Rs. 8000 by the brother of MLA Ratankumar, namely Hutter. The deal was also known to one brother-in-law of the MLA, Naoro stated.

The forum further demanded the authorities to release Bode as soon as possible and failure of which will compel the people to launch stern agitations.
