IMPHAL, July 28: The Imphal east district police commandos apprehended four cadres belonging to different UG groups during the search operation conducted at different places yesterday.
According to a release issued by the SSP Imphal East, a team of the district police commandos apprehended one cadre of underground UNLF identified as Thongram Joy Singh, 42, s/o of Th Kunjo Singh of Thiyam Konjin Maning Leikai from Okram Chuthek yesterday morning around 9.55 am near Okram Chuthek.
The release further said, on spot verification the arrested person revealed to the police that he joined the outfit in the year 2011 through one s/s sgt. major Oinam Joy of Oinam Mamang Leikai, he was reportedly arrested earlier by the 7 Assam Rifles in the month of May this year and he is now working under the command of s/s sgt. major Thounaojam Brojen of Lamjao of the outfit.
Further, on the same day another team of Imphal East district police commandos arrested two cadres of underground KCP (Lalhieba) group identified as Laishram Raghumani alias Thanil Meitei, 37 s/o of L Rashi Meitei of Yairipok Bishnunaha Makha Leikai and Khuraijam Hemanta alias Pari alias Raju Meitei s/o late Kh. Dhananjoy Meitei of Yurembam Makha Leikai from Khuman Lampak Bus parking gate No. 2 yesterday morning.
Further verification by the police has led to his disclosure that they joined the outfit in the month of April this year through one Nawang and presently working under his command and they also further disclosed to the police that, they were involved in extortion of money from the general public and government officials etc, the release added.
