Flood in Sugnu improves

IMPHAL, July 23: Flood water that has submerged a large part of Sugnu constituency of Thoubal district has slowly receded bringing a sigh of relief for the flood affected villagers.

However villagers who have been displaced and currently taking shelter at relief camps yet to returned to their homestead as most of the area remained waterlogged.

The local MLA of Sugnu, K. Ranjit who is also the works minister of the state, today further conducted surveys of the affected areas.

During the survey the minister also further provided relief materials besides supplying drinking water.

In the meantime, medical aids in the relief camps have been intensified.

Medical officers of various PHC, CHCs were pressed into work for treating villagers to prevent possible post flood outbreaks.

A team of doctors from Sugnu PHC along side with 27 AR put up medical camps at Tnagjeng Kunjao. Similar camps was also open at Chingtam community hall were over hundred villagers are currently taking shelter.

To prevent any water borne diseases the doctors have also started fluorinating waters.

Besides minor diarrhea and skin problems no major water borne diseases are yet to be detected informed the doctors.

The survey covered vulnerable places like Warukok, Chairel area including Tangjeng Khunou, Wangoo.

Interacting with villagers K. Ranjit assured possible help from the government. He said the administrators concerned have been instructed to collect to collect the data of area affected by flood including paddy fields.

He further informed the villagers that he had apprise the Chief Minister who is holding the portfolio of relief and disaster management.

Re-assuring the villagers he informed them that the government has drafted a plan of about 7 crores and sent to the Bhramaputra Board to develop the vulnerable river banks from of Manipur River.

He maintained that a sum of 1.7 crores has been earmarked for the initial developmental works of the Manipur River bank.
