GHC issues stay order on RTI directive

IMPHAL July 30: The Guwahati High Court in a directive issued by Justice BP Katakey on July 28 has passed a stay order in regard to an RTI case.

The case concerns Nongmaithem Minaketan Singh, senior environmental officer of the MPCB and concerned SPIO of the said department as petitioner and Manipur Information Commissioner through State Information Commissioner and chief editor of Kangleipakki Meira as respondents.

The case concerned that SPIO had given the necessary information on time and which was contrary to the directive issued by chief information commissioner Rk Angousana. The RTI applicant is the editor and the commissioner had intimated that a fine of Rs 25,000 be paid as compensatory amount to the appellant for failure of giving the information on time.

The matter was taken up in court and then the judge had issued a stay order on the directive of the chief information commissioner.
