IMC demands more dump sites

IMPHAL, July 31: A two days awareness drive on cleanliness with a theme “Clean City, Healthy City” was organised by the Municipal on July 18, 2011, at a Khwairambam Ima Market and adjoining Ima market along with the elected Councillors and official staffs of the Municipal to impart a sense of participation and responsibility that everyone has a stake in keeping the earth healthy.

A statement issued by Ngaminlun Kipgen of the Planning and Publicity, asserted that the drive was organized by the Municipal Council, led by its Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, Ragumani and Thambaljao besides other elected councilors of different wards.

It said that besides participating in the cleaning up the streets the councilors also met the local residents where the “dump” site poses a threat. The Council is committed to solving the problem faced by the residents by reconstructing the road and drainage way and conducting a free Medical Camp to detoxify the possible water-borne related diseases, it said.

Although the government allots the dumpsite, the Municipal Council for administrative convenience maintains it; therefore, the government will have to allot a new site to accommodate the ever-growing pile of city garbage.
