Justice demanded for rape victim

DIMAPUR, July 23: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Naga tribe women organisations vehemently protested against the shocking rape and murder incident of the 20-year-old girl from Kirha village, 3rd Mile in Dimapur and urged the law enforcing authorities to arrest the culprits immediately and the severest punishment be meted out for such inhuman crimes being inflicted “on our girls and women”.

“We urge the Nagaland Women Commission to probe into the incident immediately through an inquiry committee and ensure justice to the bereaved family. It is most unfortunate that while the Naga women are in the national capital to demand for justice from the “collective leadership” against armed violence , another heinous crime of rape and murder has been committed on an innocent victim. We convey our deepest condolence to the bereaved family and will stand together to bring the guilty to book,” the JAC added.

It is worth noting that a young girl identified as Avino aged 20, a resident of Kirha village was raped and brutally murdered by unknown person (s) in her own room on Wednesday night at 3rd Mile in Dimapur.

The body was discovered early morning of Thursday at around 7:20 am by family members. She was found lying nude on the floor with a shawl covering her body and a towel thrown over her face.

A Dimapur police team arrived and took the body to Dimapur District Hospital for post-mortem where in it was confirmed that the victim had been raped and then murdered. Semen found on the victim’s body will be sent to.
