IMPHAL July 10: In continuation of the state government’s policy regarding acquisition of village No 25 of the Kabo Leikai area in connection with the expansion of the Hotel Imphal and its subsequent upgradation to a five star hotel, the state vigilance commission in a notification published on July10 in various local dailies had informed 70 individuals/persons residing at the Kabo Leikai area to appear before its office on July 11 along with their original land allotment orders bearing No.1000/25-A/2006/DSLR dated 27/10/2006 of the directorate of settlement and land records, Manipur and Jamabandi of the land occupied by them at village No.25 (A) Kabo Leikai (Naga River) without failure.

Meanwhile decrying the sudden notification of the state vigilance commission informing the residents to appear before its office at such a short notice (on Monday), the JAC arbitrary displacement of Naga River colony 25-A Kabo Leikai has termed it as most insulting and obnoxious.

The JAC in a statement has said that the government should give sufficient time. It decried that the information was given in a local daily published today informing the residents to appear before the office the next day on Monday.

It has further maintained that a short notice time should not be less than three days and not just a day as being provided by the state vigilance commission, it maintained.

It has further questioned the motive behind the prompt urgency of the vigilance commission when the case has been lingering on for the last many months.

The government authority should be helpful and not hurtful in exercising their bounden duty in the public interest it peeved, and added that the original documents would be produced through the court and not directly to the vigilance authority, as legal proceedings is pending.

The resident of the Naga river colony-Kabo leikai is on an upheaval for the past few months aggrieved by the proposed plan of construction of a five star Hotel by upgrading the existing Imphal hotel at the cost of their land.

The residents have been vehemently opposing the proposed plan stating it as unjust. Being adamant not to move from their homestead the residents also filed a case at the high court challenging the eviction order of the government.

Many civil bodies have also raised their concerned on the issue and urged the government to reconsider the decision.

Despite the hue and cry, the government apparently is planning to move forward with its plan expressing the need to boost the tourism industry. The Chief Minister also announced that the government is under serious consideration to re-locate the affected families of Kabo Leikai.
