Large area of paddy fields still flooded

IMPHAL, July 24: A large area of paddy fields in Thoubal and Imphal West districts are still flooded even if the water level of major rivers in the state has receded to a great extent.

Approximately 7000 hectares of paddy fields have been flooded for the past one week and the farmers are apprehensive of losing their crops this time. The farmers have also drawn the attention of the authorities concerned to give compensations for the losses incurred by them.

According to the officials of IFCD, the department is trying its best level to control flood in various parts of the state. However, the flood condition in some parts of Khangabok and Khabi are still grim with no signs of improvement, the official added.

The Lilong River, Iril River and Nambul River are still flowing at the warning level, stated an official of flood control room.

The water level of major rivers has receded after three gates of the Ithai Barage have been opened since July 20. The department has also mended the embankment of Leimakhong River measuring about 10 meters at Lamlai, added the official.
