`Locals nab MR personnel trying to collect monetary demand`

IMPHAL, July 28: Volunteers of Nagaram Youth Club, Imphal today caught a personnel of the 8 Manipur Rifles while he was trying to collect monetary demands as a sympathizer of the militant group KNF (MC) from a resident of Nagaram.

The arrested militant sympathizer who has been identified as Ngamboi Gangte, 38, s/o of Netpi of Khousabung village Bishnupur and presently residing at New Checkon, was also involved in delivering demand letters for another Kuki militant outfit KNA according to his own admission.

According to a local source, the members of the club on getting prior information that a member of a Kuki militant outfit will be coming to the locality to collect monetary demands, have been loitering around the area in disguise since early this morning.

The source also informed that three youths arrive in a suspicious way on a diesel Auto to the said area, on which the volunteers moved towards the youths.

However sensing danger two of them managed to escape on the same diesel auto, though the volunteers managed to nabbed the third youth who has bee identified as the MR personnel, the source added.

On interrogation by the volunteers, the nabbed militant sympathizer identified his two accomplices who managed to escape as IS Khongsai and Paomei Khongsai.

He further informed the volunteers that he had been involved in delivering demand letters for the KNA for which he was provided with Rs 1000 each by the outfit.

The arrested person was later handed over to a team of Imphal West district mobile police commando team who arrived at the spot this morning, the local source added.
