IMPHAL, July 11:  Commerce and industry minister Y. Irabaot was reportedly involved in a confrontation with a labourer employed by Okram Henry, nephew of Chief Minister O. Ibobi  at Mantripukhri AT Line near Union Baptist Church. Many persons who claimed to have witnessed the incident went on to claim that Irabot even physically assaulted the labourer.

The incident happened around 10:30 this morning when some labourers were carrying out repair work at a road. At the moment, Irabot arrived at the scene and told them to halt the ongoing work as he had already engaged other people to repair the road.

A local person, Parapak, said the incident happened when they were leveling the ground with a JCB Crane at the same spot where Y Irabot had already undertaken a drainage construction job. He added, the earth dug-out for the construction was piled on the road and was causing inconveniences in movement around the area. He said as a result he took up the issue with O Henry. Subsequently, Henry sent a JCB crane-machine along with some workers to level the road with the help of the localites. At this point Irabot rushed to the spot intervene and kick the man while shouting ‘why are you meddling with my construction work without my consent’.

Another local women named Karuna Limbu, identified Henry’s worker as Akoijam Gyanashore from Tabungkhok. She said under the chairmanship of O Henry an association called Mantripukhri Women Welfare Associaltion was formed. She added that Henry had made a commitment to help them in overall developmental work. So, the minister’s interference today was not advisable and he has been banned from carrying out any further work in the area, she added.
