IMPHAL, July 16: An enraged mob razed the houses of two individuals at Keirao Makting Leikai for their involvement in the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl from the same locality.
The accused were identified as Md. Babul, 22, s/o of Nasuk Ali and Md. Hasin, 20, s/o Nasir Ali.
According to family members of the victim, she had gone to buy eggs from a shop in the neighborhood at around 6:15 pm last evening. However at 6:45 pm a text message was received by her elder sister from the victim’s phone stating that she has been kidnapped by five individuals who have made a monetary demand to his brother.
They stated that in the message the victim told them that her life is in danger adding that she was physically tired and requested them to rescue her.
In an attempt to inquire her whereabouts, her relatives sent a message to her which prompted a reply from the other end stating that she was tied up and gagged, and being kept at a hill top, the sources adds.
The sources further alleged that the victim also informed that the brother-in-law of a former militant leader MI Khan, who has imposed monetary demand on her brother, were among her abductors.
Few minutes later, a call was received from the victim’s mobile but no one spoke and only the sound of the girl crying for help was heard, they said.
The family repeatedly called and text her number but the only response they received was some blank message.
Subsequently, the victim’s family lodged a complaint at the Irilbung police station the same night.
The sources further informed that on receiving reports of a person being dropped in front of the gate of a local resident Maurubi Jalal from an Alto car in the wee hours today the family rushed there and found her unconscious.
She was rushed to RIMS hospital for treatment where she regained consciousness.
The victim narrated the ordeal of being raped and torture meted out to her.
The family while quoting the victim stated that she was kidnapped by about five individuals while she was on her way to buy the eggs and subsequent rape, torture meted. She also identified some of the perpetrators.
When the incident came to the knowledge of the locals they stormed the house of two of the accused and set ablaze their houses around 4 pm in the evening. Late reports said that the victim have undergone forensic test.
