MTPRM apprises CM on grievances of tribal people

IMPHAL, July 29: The Movement For Tribal People`s Rights, Manipur (MTPRM) has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister regarding the grievances of the tribal people of the state. 

A release of the organization stated tht the tribal people are surprised to learn that for the first time in the history ofManipur, the portfolio of tribal development and hills is held by non tribal inspite of the fact that there are capable tribal

people representatives in the present SPF Govt. forthe said portfolio.

It further mentioned that the department of tribal development and hills has started diminishing each passing day and the tribal people who are residing in far flung areas and naturally are not fluent in Manipuri dialect to meet the Chief Minister who is also the Minister for tribal development and hills is quite unimaginable if not impossible for meeting with while even the other Ministers, MLAs and high ranking officials are finding difficulties for the meeting.

It is a fact that on many occasions tribal people felt disappointed after failure to meet the Chief Minister who is also the minister for tribal development and hills for discussion regarding important issues and matters Telating to the tribal people and hills affairs since the Hon`ble Chief Minister took over the charge for Tribal Development and Hills, the release stated.

In a democratic country like India, it would be a serious crime on the part of any Minister for not meeting the people whom he represents at the capacity as a people representative.

On the above stated few facts and circumstances, the Movement For Tribal People`s Rights, Manipur (MTPRM) draw the attention of the Chief Minister who is also the minister for Tribal Development and Hills to allow the tribal people for meeting atleast 3(three)days public interview in a week so as to enable the tribal people express their grievances. If our genuine proposal/demand is n6t translated into action within one week time, we may be compelled to express resentment by bringing up to the notice of the Prime Minister of India, UPA Chairperson, Leader of the Opposition of the Union Govt. and Governor ofManipur for denial of the rights of the democratic citizens in the interest of justice, the release added.
