NHRCW member, CM discuss rights of women

IMPHAL, July 21: Member of the National Human Rights Commission for Women Wangsuk Syien has arrived in Imphal today from the national capital to assess cases related to the violation of rights of women in the state.

Soon after she arrived at the state capital this morning, Syien hold discussion with chief minister O Ibobi at the CM bungalow where she suggested steps which the state government ought to take up for the protection of rights of the women.

Later in the afternoon, the visiting NHRCW member, with assistance from the state home department, inspected both Central Jails at Imphal and Sajiwa and overviewed the conditions of women cells there. She also visited the Ima market at Khwairamband bazaar.

The NHRCW member will have interactions with various human rights activists, especially women activists, before she departs for national capital tomorrow, the source added.
