Nursing students alleged deception by institute

IMPHAL July 9: In a case of deception and fraud a founder of a nursing institute along with 4 officials reportedly mislead several aspiring nurse students from rural areas of the state. Students of the institute have alleged that the institute authorities have been absconding with over Rs 5 lakhs collected from the students. 

The aggrieved students and guardians of the National Nursing Institute, which is located at Soibam Leikai, Imphal East today held a press conference at the Manipur press club, Imphal.

The aggrieved students while addressing media persons disclosed that the founder of the institute Ksh. Ibotombi, who is staying at Soibam Leikai at present, is originally from Nambol.

They elaborated that the founder had come to their villages and conducted 2 months health training under the National Rural health guide hospital and research and informed them that competent candidates will be selected for enrollment to Nursing course. The two months training programme was attended by more than 60 students. The training programme was conducted at various far flung places in the state.

Thus, after completion of the two months health training programme, competent candidates were selected and were enrolled for JNM and ANM courses at National Institute of Nursing with assurance of regular jobs, they added.

One of the aggrieved students during the press conference disclosed that after the two months training, 40 selected students were brought to a makeshift boarding facility located at Soibam leikai and the classes were conducted at one Unique boarding home situated at Porompat.

She further elaborated that one Chitra from Kongba Uchekon allegedly took charged as the principal of the Institute while one Th. Rinata from Kongpal, one Karuna from Bamon Kampu and one Jurmana from Pishumthong were the instructors.

She further added that the session for ANM at Unique Boarding was started from November 2009 with 40 students including boys however later in the following year they were left dumbfounded after finding out that the institute is unrecognized by the concerned authority.

Many students had left due to this, she added however after many negotiations with the principal, the remaining students were issued admit cards after attaching the institute to S. Kumar ACS hospital, situated at Porampat and were told that they will be allowed to appear for exams conducted under the Assam Nursing council .

However on a closer look all the students had been issued admit cards of different years. This has only left the students enraged and furious as they are unable to ascertain whether the issued admit cards are genuine or not.

The students also complained that they had taken their issue to the DESAM, however after a couple of meetings with the students; the student union has also started to ignore them.

It is reported that a total of Rs. 19050 were allegedly charged from each students which includes admission fee, rent fees, form fill up, uniform, health guide and other miscellaneous.
