Private schools` assn includes Thang-Ta in school curriculum

IMPHAL, July 2: With the sole objective of promoting the indigenous art form of Thang-Ta amongst the students of the state, the All Manipur Recognized Private Schools’ Welfare Association has included Thang-Ta as a co-curricular activity in the curriculum of private schools of the state starting from the current academic session.  

The formal inauguration function was held today at GM Hall with Doren Khabanganba, president, All Manipur Recognized Private Schools’ Welfare Association, Dr H Nabachandra, secretary, Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur, L Rajmohon, secretary, Board of Secondary Education Manipur, Thang-Ta instructor G Gourakishor Sharma, Thang-Ta instructor L Heramod and Thang-Ta instructor Nodiya Mangang.

Delivering the keynote address, the general secretary of All Manipur Recognized Private Schools’ Welfare Association, Kh Japan stated that as per the resolution of the association Thang-Ta has been included in the curriculum of the private schools with the objective of promoting and preserving the rich indigenous art forms of the state.

Highly qualified instructors will impart both theory and practical of Thang-Ta to the students. 20 schools have been chosen for the first phase and the students will begin to learn Thang-Ta under the guidance of KIMACS, he noted.

The secretary of COHSEM, Dr Hamom Nabachandra stated that the youths should take the lead roles in safeguarding their cultural identity in the midst of modernization and globalization. The indigenous art forms such as Thang-Ta should be imparted to the young students so as to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the state, he observed.

Dr Naba also appealed to the parents and guardians to take utmost care of their wards, especially in education which is the backbone of the society.

A Thang-Ta performance by the students was also shown during the inauguration function.

    Keep alive and take a firm hold to what belongs to us…. we can’t afford to lose which belongs to us…. May the young generations realize the value of what belongs to them and us…. Long Live Kangleipak…!

It is very good to know that some people remember that we have something that belongs to us… Thang Ta is the most sacred and oldest form of Manipuri’s first line of Defense during the olden days… now it has become a stage performance show… but one should remember that it has to be followed with utmost care so that it stays alive for others too… we can’t afford to lose something that has been passed down from generation to generations since our forefather’s time…. ┬áLong Live Kangleipak…
