Quality control basic for artisans: Nandakishore

IMPHAL, July 16: A common facility for handloom and handicraft was inaugurated by Kshetrigao legislator Th Nandakishore at Wangkhei Ayangpalli in Imphal East district today.

The centre has been established by Social Development Organization (SDO) with financial assistance from Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Union ministry of Textiles.

Speaking at the function, MLA Nandakishore stressed on the importance of developing handloom and handicraft industry for uplifting the economic conditions of the state.

He maintained that the socio-economic condition of the people of Imphal East district can be raised only if they work with dedication at such common centres to produce quality products which can find potential customers from outside the state and internationally.

Asserting that handloom and handicraft products of the state are in great demand in international markets, Nandakishore made an appeal to the weavers and artisans to maintain utmost care in establishing quality of their products so as to maintain their good marketability.

The secretary of SDO, Ph Ranjana stated that the common facility has been constructed at the cost of Rs. 47 lakhs, out of which Rs. 37 lakhs had been spent for the installation of machineries alone. 

About 500 artisans from Wangkhei area cluster will be taking advantage of the  machines and resources availableto produce artistic textiles, embroidered and appliqué crafts from this centre, she said.

Ranjana further encouraged the artisans to concenterated on delivering on the demands of attractiveness and high quality for their products to increase their marketablity.

The function was also attended by T Rollee Vareishim, assistant director of marketing and services extension centre, W Birendrajit, superintendent of Directorate of Commerce and Industries, and Th Rajen, investigator of Marketing and Service Extension Centre.
