IMPHAL, July 8: RTI activist W Joykumar has found out differences in the allocation of fund under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) to various schools in urban and rural areas as per the response of his queries made to the state project director of RMSA under the RTI Act.

Addressing media persons today, RTI activist Joykumar stated that the information given by the concerned project director of RMSA indicates that the schools in urban areas receive fund of about Rs 25 lakh for infrastructural development and other works while those in rural areas receive only about Rs 19 lakh.

He maintained that the schools in urban areas are almost defunct with meager enrolment of students while those schools in rural areas could draw large number of students. The difference in fund allocation will simply deter the quality of education in the state. The allocation of fund should be made as per the actual requirement of the schools rather than by political and other influences, he noted.

Joykumar asserted that the difference in fund allocation will also cause hindrance to effective implementation of the Right to Education Act in the state.
