Sadar Hills all set to go ahead with `eco blockade`

IMPHAL, July 30: Another bout of disturbance along the national highways especially NH 2 in the form of economic blockades, seem to be unavoidable, with various civil bodies of the Sadar Hills area all set to launched economic blockades with the end of the deadline on July 31, set by the Sadar hills districthood demand committee (SHDDC) for the government to fulfill its demand.

Meanwhile, anticipating no positive response from the side of the government on the issue before the end of the deadline, various civil bodies of the Sadar Hills area today organized separate block level meetings in their areas to chalk out measures to effectively enforce the proposed economic blockade on both highways of the state. 

According to a reliable source, in one such meeting at New Keithelmanbi block, a 12 member sub committee was also formed.

The source also maintained that around 40 representatives of various civil bodies under the New Keithelmanbi area attended the meet and the committee was formed in the presence of representatives of Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO), Kuki Innpi and women bodies of the New Keithelmanbi block.

Haokai Sitlhou was appointed as the chairman and Seihkholen Kipgen as the secretary of the committee.

Talking to IFP the chairman of the newly form sub-committee, said that they would leave no stone unturned this time to achieve their demand and further maintained that the sub-committee has deliberately discussed the matter relating to the enforcement of economic blockade along the NH-37.

He further added that the sub-committee was formed with the motive to take up measures to ensure the effectiveness of the blockade along the National Highway 37, formerly known as NH-53 incase of failure from the government to satisfy their demand of according district status to the Sadar Hill area.

The people of Sadar hills have been deprived of their rights for the last 40 years of getting a full fledged district but the government concerned have tested the patience enough, he said before appealing to the people to extend their co-operation.

Earlier during the morning at about 8 am a similar meet was also held at Motbung bazaar wherein various village organizations from Sapermaina, Saitu, Leikot, Motbung, youths organization and women organization.
